Wismari 47 is one of the oldest houses on the street and in the Kassisaba neighbourhood. Built in 1880, it fit six small apartments on the first floor, and on the second floor it had the winch device. Over the years, the hoists and ropes disappeared and made room for people. The floor space has remained the same, but now the house has two large family apartments.

Wismari 47 historical house was quite literally saved in 2012, when Perton Ehitus undertook the massive reconstruction works. Less often seen nowadays in the cities, where small and worn-down houses usually make way for bigger ones. The construction manager Matti Tilk commented that „Much of the house had water damage and rotten beams, which all had to be replaced. One of the intermediate floors had fallen down, and the floors of the first floor were mostly damaged.“
Despite the house’s desolate condition, many historical details, like the 130-year-old window frames, the wooden cornices, and the lime-stone foundation, were reused or fully reconstructed. Just like other homes created by Perton Ehitus, this house also received energy efficient technological solutions.
The reconstruction of Wismari 47 earned us a letter of gratitude from Tallinn’s Cultural Heritage Board in 2012. Wismari 47 stands proud in the wooden street front of Kassisaba houses.
